Chair of Governing Board

Whittle Academy

I am delighted to welcome you to Whittle Academy, part of the Inspire Education Trust. My name is Stefanie Goodwin and I am Chair of the Whittle Academy Local Governing Body. I have been part of the Local Governing Body for the past three years and have taken the position of Chair as of September 2018. I have three children at Whittle Academy and feel that I as a parent have a good understanding of the issues that matter to pupils and parents. Professionally I am a Financial Advisor with 17 years’ experience in Banking and Financial advice, which I feel allows me to bring a range of skills to our Local Governing Body.

The role of a Local Governing Body is to provide focused governance at a local level, this includes monitoring of the academy’s key performance indicators, to work in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure a high standard of education is provided for all pupils. The Local Governing Body will act as a “critical friend” of the Senior Leadership Team which provides challenge and openness with trust and mutual respect being key to making sure our school continues to move forward.

Our Governing Body consists of parents, members of the local community and those with vast experience in education. I feel that the members we have bring diversity of knowledge, skills and experience which then enables us to be as effective as we can be.

The Governing Body contributes to the strategic direction of the school, identifying how it should develop and improve. We do this by reviewing and agreeing policies, by setting targets and priorities, and by monitoring performance against national data and other key indicators. We meet regularly and are often involved with the school day, observing lessons and reviewing evidence of learning and pupil progress.

Whittle Academy actively encourages parents and carers to participate fully in their children’s education. Children can only achieve their best if there is an effective partnership between parents and carers and the school and governors are always looking to ensure this happens. Should you therefore have any concerns about your child’s education then please contact the school to discuss these.
